4.5 (58 reviews) Spent Ranking #23 in West Palm Beach Hiking Trails

Great to walk, run or bike

It’s my 3rd time going in January, the Apoxee trail is closed because the weather but around it is the Owahee trail... around 8 miles... it’s awesome to take pictures, walk, run or bike for around 2 to 4 hours depending your pace and mood... one of my favs to spend a day in peace

Beautiful little known free wilderness area and trail
Apoxee (pronounced "a-po-ee) is one of those great little finds--it goes through a restored wetland hammock and pine flatlands in the western part of West Palm Beach. The entrance is on the west side of Jog Road, about one mile north of Okeechobeee Blvd. There is a parking area near the entrance, then a number of trails to walk.. There is a paved ADA loop trail of about .5 miles and the Apoxee Trail which goes through some wetlands to a long boardwalk. The Owahee trail goes around the outer edge of the wilderness area and bikes are only allowed there. This is great place to see wildlife--a great variety of birds, alligators, etc. Some of this area gets flooded after heavy rains and some of the trails are underwater or very muddy. The ADA trail is paved and usually is not effected by the flooding as well as the outer loop trail. It is a good idea to bring water, insect repellant, a hat, cellphone and sunscreen.
