Nice place to visit if you have a boat
Grew up around the corner from this place. It's awesome. Not much to do if you don't have a boat, though. You CAN rent....but it's not cheap. Also, "big" boats on the TN river are scary for small crafts.

Looking for eagles
Our reason for visiting Pickwick Lake in February was to spot bald eagles. The North Alabama Birding Trail directed us to Waterloo and Pickwick Lake as the #11 spot for bird watchers. The temp was 37 and the wind was blowing, so we didn't hang out for the time it might have taken to see eagles fishing in the lake. I do believe I saw a golden eagle and a turkey vulture swooped so low, we were afraid he would hit the car. Take County Rd 1 off of CR 14 (just east of Waterloo) and go about 1.5 miles to find a TVA picnic area along the lake. The water was very low exposing tree roots; made for an eerie scene (see photos). This is the place recommended to spot bald eagles in the winter months. We will check back on a warmer day. I understand the fishing is good in this lake. As cold and windy as it was, there were a lot of fishermen out on the lake (from County Road 14).
