Frank Lloyd Wright's Rosenbaum House, Alabama, United States

Worth the huge budget to restore this FLW house

The Rosenbaums ended up spending twice their budget to build this home, but that's nothing compared to what it cost to restore it after Mrs. Rosenbaum donated it to the city of Florence. That cost TEN times their budget. We who really enjoy touring FLW homes, though, appreciate the time and money spent. This is typical FLW. One thing we didn't know was that Wright coined the term "carport" for the cantilever roof that juts out from the home - perfect to park a car under. The guides were great; they gave us a history at the beginning and then mostly let us wander and ask questions. By the way, the home is located in a great neighborhood, and while we went to Florence just to see this home, while you're in the area we also recommend Trowbridge's 1918 ice cream shop!

Most livable FLW you’ll ever see!!
Charming house, wonderful family story of raising 4 boys and then feeding the house to the city. The City of Florence had the foresight to restore and preserve this great example of FLW’s work, his ONLY in the state of Alabama! A “Must-See” while in the area. (It is why we routed our road trip through Florence!).

    Free Day...lucky for us
We showed up on a day that happened to be free because of their sponsor. However, that also meant we were on a self guided tour. The docent there did talk to us and gave us more personalized tour info as she could when other guests left. But we enjoyed it very much. It sits in a lovely neighborhood. You start at the community center for tickets and a small display to introduce you to Frank Lloyd Wright and his homes. This is the only home of his in Alabama. We were here less than an hour but enjoyed adding this Wright home to our list of those we have toured. Small town but a great stop if in the area.
