AMC Florence 12, Alabama, United States

Good Movie Theater!

This movie theater was recently purchased by AMC and renamed AMC Florence 12. The theater was originally built about 13 years ago by Carmike Cinemas. This movie theater features 3D and digital movies on large digital screens. It also offers stadium seating. AMC Florence 12 has been recently remodeled. They have the self serve drink machines now whereas the guests make their own drinks instead of the employees. My only problem with this is that after standing in line to purchase tickets, candy, and popcorn; you must stand in line again to pour your drink. This theater serves pizza, as well and also features the self serve butter stations for popcorn. AMC Florence 12 could be a little cleaner (like most theaters) but overall it is a good theater. Do yourself a favor and join the free AMC Stubs program to receive special offers such as $2 off tickets on Tuesdays and free refills on large popcorn.

This is a nice, but not great theater. It works for a quick movie close to home. The Monoca at Bridge Street is priced about the same, and there the movies are often in 3-D.

    Pros and Cons
The visual and sound quality is excellent - I think they've upgraded since AMC took it over, and, since our family members are all short people, the stadium seating is much appreciated. However, having to buy tickets at the concession stand (an effort to make you buy food/drink whether you want it or not) is downright awful and chaotic - after standing in line for 30 minutes to get tickets, and then standing in line again to fill up cups from the drink machines on the other side of the lobby is extremely irritating, inefficient, and downright stupid. It is not good business to piss off your customers from the moment they hit the door, AMC. We would come to the movies more often if it wasn't such an unpleasant experience between the door and my seat. Of course, prices for food/drink are outrageous - do they not understand that, if only they had fair pricing, people would buy a lot more candy, popcorn, and drinks? Almost everyone I know smuggles their own candy in, especially if they have kids. I don't want to pay $7 for 10-cents worth of popcorn, or $5 for a small cup of soda, or $5 for a 50-cent candy bar. A family of 4 could easily spend a Benjamin just to go to a movie. Or, I can rent a new release for $5 in the comfort of my own home, and provide goodies for everyone for about $12, stand in no lines whatsoever, and watch the movie in HD on a 60" screen with surround sound.
