What A Great Museum
Sometimes I think when people visit Belgium, they hit Ghent, Bruges, Antwerp, and Brussels, but Leuven gets ignored. This museum was really great. It was one of my favorite museums I visited in Belgium (and I visited many). There was a lot of variety in the types of art represented and there were some really interesting exhibits. The museum is very kid-friendly, too. I don't have kids, but I like how accessible the museum tries to make art for the younger generation. One piece of art I saw at this museum was a sculpture of The Prodigal Son. It moved me to tears. The audio guide they provide is also great, and mine was programmed in English. It really supplemented my experience. It took me about two hours to get through everything. Well worth it.

Good for modern art lovers
Disclaimer: I'm not a fan of modern art. That said, the layout, items on display, and the audio guide made this museum interesting for me. There are a number of antique, centuries old paintings and artifacts, as well, which probably helped make me like this museum. I visited the museum the same day as the car-free day in Leuven, and apparently the museum was joining in on the festivities going on in the city by offering free admission, so I paid nothing (well, I did donate 4 Euros). The museum is tastefully done and it's actually quite large, snaking around, up and down. There aren't a ton of museum pieces, so you can move through rather quickly relative to many other museums. Most description placards were only in Dutch and French, though there is an audio guide included with the ticket. I did the audio guide (English) and it was helpful in learning about what I was looking at. Some exhibits were interactive and entertaining, making my visit that much more enjoyable. Recommended to visit at least once. Typical gift-shop, toilets, cloak-room, café, etc., in the museum.

Labyrinthic building
We have already visited several exhibitions at Museum M in Leuven and always had difficulties finding our way around the building. There seem to be steep stairs everywhere and you never know where you are, despite the fact that the museum is relatively small. It wasn’t any different this time. We had to ask twice before we found the rooms dedicated to the exhibition ‘Imagining the Universe’. It brings together a variety of exhibits (paintings, statues, tapestries, manuscripts, models, etc.) from the Middle Ages to the early modern period illustrating different answers to fundamental questions about the origins of the universe and the place of humans. Nothing very memorable; it took us less than an hour to view everything. We were most impressed by a beautiful Genesis page in the Anjou Bible (Naples, 1340).
