Hotel d'Hane Steenhuyse, Flanders, Belgium

4.5 (46 reviews) Thursday: Spent Ranking #27 in East Flanders Province Architectural Buildings

Real gen of Gent!

A real gem among museums. I rarely see such rooms with all details of epoch. It seems like inhabitants just went out for a minute and would be back. Amazing feeling! And it's free! One thing to check before visit - opening hours. They are very limited.

A good example of a Belgian period house
Worth a visit as it is free (donations gratefully received) and a great example of a house of a certain period. Good English guide to read as you walk around too. Open 2-6pm at the moment (Friday-Sunday only). Several rooms over two floors to visit.

Make sure you visit this hidden gem in Ghent
Our old UK guidebook didn't even mention this fabulous mansion but thankfully our Gent Tourism guide did. A wonderful little gem of a place. We managed to get on a twice weekly tour - 2:30 Fridays and Saturdays - from the Museum across the street and so got to see their Chinese fabric covered salon too. The tour of both Mansions was €6, took 2 hours, and our guide was fabulous. She managed to transfix us all, the 6 locals and we two English tourists. The other staff/volunteers were friendly as well. I could happily have moved in! An oasis on one of the main shopping streets that is clearly missed by most. If you only have time for one place after the Van Eyke Triptych, make it this one!! Superb!
