Ghent University Botanical Garden, Flanders, Belgium

4.5 (67 reviews) Spent Ranking #32 in East Flanders Province Gardens

Beautiful walk in the park..

A nice discovery in Gent, have read alot about it but never was there so it was time for a visit. Very peaceful place, starts from beginning and a must be for plant- and flowerlovers.. So many different plants, flowers, herbs to see. They have 3 glasshouses which you have to visit because they all have a different climate and you can see special species of plants. Some are even on the list of endangered species. Was a nice hidden gem in the city.

    Lush greenhouses’
Walking through Citadel Park from the railway station we decided, on the spur of the moment, to have a look at the nearby University Botanical Garden. In these Covid times, it’s advisable to make a reservation to visit the three greenhouses (Victoria, subtropical and tropical greenhouse) but we were allowed in without because there were few people inside. Entrance is free. We enjoyed having the place almost to ourselves to stroll among the lush vegetation. In one of the greenhouses a big basin was completely drained and several gardeners were at work. November is clearly not the best time to visit. We will definitely give this place another try in spring.

Like the jungle + secret spot for seeing Ghent from the sky !
free enterance - This was my favorite place between 2007 and 2010 to get a break when i was studying in Ghent, i think i visited the garden and the serres about 100 times. The air inside the serres is so pure and moist, it is really like you are walking in the jungle. A lot beautiful plants in there :) SECRET SPOT==> While you are here, get into the University building itself by the front doors and take the elevator to the top floor, then get out and take the few stairs left, there is a door that you should open to get onto the roof top - I used to go there for smoking sigarettes. This will get you the best view of Ghent, no doubt!
