Very Well Done
This is a remarkable museum which, fortunately, secured its treasures during the war. We visited the front two galleries which covered prehistoric times and then development up to the 15th century. Luckily, we were with our tour guide who could interpret the displays as English subtitles are rare. This beautiful and graceful marble palace does an excellent job of displays. New glass or lucite cases with state-of-the-art lighting allow items to be seen at their best. Fortunately, we were visiting on the one Saturday a month and the single hour of that Saturday that visitors could examine the historical Hagadah (maybe the museum's dearest treasure). In the courtyard is a small botanical garden. There are not numbers of specimens but the space is pleasant and well designed. If you are staying in the historical district you need to take the tram to the newer part of town, near the government buildings.

Excellent collection, particularly of ancient artifacts
Purpose-built as a museum at the turn of the 20th century, the structure itself is really fascinating. The collections inside are well-organized and carefully labeled. Although some of the exhibits can be considered a bit dated, there are also temporary exhibits that really connect the past with the present. The entrance fee is not high. It is well worth a visit.

Good for a short visit, needs some improvement
The exhibitions in the national museum are more related to the ancient history, Greek and Roman culture influencing the settlement in the Balkan region. Not much facts specific to the Bosna history and also almost none related to the Ottoman period (ruled Bosna for over 400 years) and the internal-civil war period. The only surprising finding for us was the learning about book of Hagadah (i.e. ancient Jewish heritage kept in Sarajevo museum)
