Bears, bears, bears, but not always salmon
If you want to get closer to lots of bears than you would ever want to in the wild, and not in a zoo. The tour takes you to a salmon hatchery. You first go by boat along a lake shore and see bears of all sizes doing all sorts of things. You then are taken to where salmon are released for spawning. The salmon are not always there because they might not have been released. One bear was six feet away and cubs were quite close. There was a ranger always ready to take action. The tour also goes briefly to a caldera and hot springs.

A MUST while in Kamchatka
This is not to be missed. A must while in the region. The brown bear activity here is world class. You will be walking right next to them and the scenery for the area is breathtaking. The chef at the lodge was excellent but they rotate the chefs in and out. Hot showers were available at night. We stayed about 8 to 10 per room in bunk beds.
