An important museum for the city
The exhibits of the museum are interestingly arranged in a chronological order starting from the paleolithic age, to the ancient civilizations of Mesopotamia, and ending in the Abbasid period. A decent collection overall, although poorly exhibited. Given the lack of attractions in the city, the civilization museum is one of the few interesting places.

Interesting archeology museum - well worth an hour's visit
It was actally easy to find (on the rght hand side of the Kirkuk Road, two blocsk in, coming into Erbil Centre from the 60 metre road). It only has three display rooms yet it contains much fascinating material, much of it REAlly OLD - the most modern items are early AD years, and there are 7,000-10,000 BC year old items. The labelling is OK, and allow 45-60 minutes if you want to read most things. Behind the Museum, inside the grounds, is an actual Tell where some of the oldest items were found. It is not 'presented' in any way, but is an historic site itself.
