Acheron Springs

If you can get here by taxi or hire car, go early - we arrived at 9:30 and there was literally less than a dozen people (By noon the place is very busy). You will need suitable shoes or cheap trainers, water to drink and a waterproof bag to keep your phone safe but be ready to take some pics. The water is cold but you will get used to it. I am 6' (1.82m) and can confirm that the water is not too deep. On the way upstream, there are two short deep sections and then, should you continue, you may have to climb a few rocks and once you turn around you will likely have to swim around 7 meters but the current will help. As a non-confident swimmer, the prospect was a little scary but if you can do it, there's a huge sense of achievement.

    The place is unique!
It is one of the most memorable places I have ever visited in Greece! Many things could have been better. Such as:* the construction of the place * the cleanliness, *the place could have been well organized and a lot more things could be better.. But the place is just amazing! The water is super cold so you must be prepared if you are traveling with children! Take a pair of shoes that will allow you to walk in the river! Rafting, zip line and riding are only some of the extra things you could trey in Acherontas river!

    Unforgettable
Pack a pair of water shoes (or buy them at the shops on the spot - flip flops are not advisable because of the stream, but sport shoes will do) and a waterproof bag for your mobile phone, keys etc, put on your bathing suit/trunks/shorts, better wear a hat or cap and off you go. There is a big parking lot from where you follow the path on foot for about 200m before entering the river. The water is ice cold at the beginning, but you get used to it. At places it's ankle deep, at others knee deep, until you reach a point where you have to swim for about 10-15 metres. If you want to continue beyond that point, it's better you didn't bring along anything but the things you can place in the waterproof bag. The river is becoming so popular in the summer that you will have to contend with following the pace of the people in front and around you. After this little adventure, there are a few tavernas and bars near the parking lot and especially on the other side of the river, where you can sit down and continue enjoying the wonderful scenery.
