Museum of Electricity, Encamp Parish, Andorra

4.5 (34 reviews) Monday: Spent Ranking #5 in Encamp Speciality Museums

Interesting small museum

Very interesting museum based on electricity but actually about the history of Andorra, from 3000 inhabitants in the 1930s to 80000 in modern times. Mostly written in Catalan but can have an audio guide in English. Takes about an hour to visit. Half price entrance for retired. Watch carefully for the entrance and signs to parking on the left, easily missed.

A Well Laid Out & Informative Small Museum
This museum succeeds in tis mission of explaining what happened in the 1930s in Andorra when the hydroelectric power station was built as were the main roads in the country. It succeeded with me because I can read Catalan, which for some curious reason is the only language in the main display. It seems that the director feels that visitors should be fluent in Catalan, thereby ensuring that 90% of tourists cannot understand his well laid out main display. A sad example of blind linguistic chauvinism triumphing over common sense, thereby wasting large sums of public money.
