Victoria Nile, Eastern Region, Uganda

4.5 (23 reviews) Spent Ranking #3 in Jinja Bodies of Water

“Stunning experience” - source of victoria/ white nile.

The Victoria Nile starts at the outlet of Lake Victoria, at Jinja, Uganda, on the northern shore of the lake. I visited the source by a boat. Apart from the entry charges..the boat costed 30 . Worth every penny, its a marvel in itself as to how the world’s largest river originates from this location. Looks like boiling water at the edge of the massive lake victoria. The boat was managed by a lady who was extremely knowledgeable and keeps telling u abt the geographical and historical aspects of the place. The flora and fauna on the shores is amazing. Must visit for all. As you move south along the white nile there are number of options for water sports which incl, water bungee jumping and white water river rafting. Highly recommended when in . Cheers

Sun set cruise along Nile River to Lake Victoria from Jinja
We took the cruise in December 2016 along Nile River from Jinja. The boat finally bring us to Lake Victoria which is the beginning of Nile River. We manage to see many wild life and birds along the cruise. We saw Pied kingfisher, Red tailed Monkey, African Woolen Kingfisher, Giant Kingfisher, Open bill Stork, Pelican, Egret, African Darter, African Fish Eagle, Comarand, Marabou Stork and many others. Lake Victoria borders kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. We can see a fishing village and fishing boats in Lake Victoria. There is a landmark at where Nile river connects to Lake Victoria, showing the zero chainage of Nile River. We have a nice sun set view in Lake Victoria. The whole journey took less than 2 hours. It is very enjoyable to cruise along the river, seeing many birds while observing people living at the river bank.

Where Lake Victoria Ends and the Nile River Begins
This source of the Nile River from Lake Victoria in Uganda is a must see when you are in Uganda. It is close to the town of Jinja and is a beautiful piece of nature. There are boats that will take you along the river and it is worth the trip. But beware of the prices you are charged - they vary like the wind. We negotiated for 60,000 Ugandan shillings for 4 of us. The boat will take you along the shoreline and you will see many wonderful bird species and if you are lucky some of the large lizards that swim in the water as well. There are several souvenir booths before you get to the river and I found them more overpriced than the markets in Kampala. It was a great highlight of my trip to Uganda. Don't miss it!
