Taka Makassar Island, East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia

Awesome for snorkeling too

When we went, the currents were fairly strong but if you're a good swimmer AND wear a life jacket, you can float with the current and swim a bit against it and snorkelled for more than an hour, from about a half mile away swimming toward this makassar island. Some people see huge manta rays, we didn't see any, as it's not in season; but still we saw gorgeous coral, a dozen huge sea turtles, and literally thousands of fish. Totally recommended!

    Most beautiful water
One of the most beautiful places to swim in the world. The water is crystal clear is shallow and great for kids. Just beautiful. Great place to take a break after hiking in Padar island and cool down.

Something special about this tiny spot of white sand in the middle of nowhere
Obviously this will be part of a full day Komodo tour or part of a several day liveaboard and believe me it will be a special part of the trip. Just the feeling of being in an "island" which you can walk from end to end in 5 min is something else. This is also an amazing place for swimming/snorkelling as the water is so clear and clean. And yes, it does provide some great photo opportunities as well. Ask your guide for the best spots or just follow others and get that photo which clearly shows the crescent nature of the beach.
