Nice for snorkeling, but stay in Watulajar instead
Had a good time snorkeling, and chilling on the islands...the beach bbq'ed fish was awesome. Accomodation in Riung is poor value tough..stay in nearby Watulajar instead. It's about 20km east of Riung, and you'll find a set of wonderful beach bungalows: Eco Eden Bungalows. 200.000 a night. From here you can arrange snorkel trips as well. Awesome setting, near the beach and a small community. If you've trouble finding it (it's pretty new the owner - who I met in Bajawa - told me), go with ojek to desa lengkosambi, and ask for pantai Watulajar or Om Lipus....enjoy :))))

Beware theft on the boat while snorkelling.
We did 2 daily snorkelling trips. The coral and fish here is very good as are the beaches. On the second day we had to pay the balance of our cost to the organisers of the boat tour. so we took that money on the boat securely padlocked shut even though we were warned by our staff at Nirvana cottages to only take on the boat what we needed. When I went to pay a significant amount of money had been taken. they had got into a very good quality TSA rated lock. There was only an old man (captain) and a 14 year old boy on the boat. So dont use the "boat people" on the left as you look down the pier towards the sea its a bamboo type homestay set up. They are all in on it as was our driver Angi from Maumere who steadfastly kept pressuring us to use this place for our snorkelling. Book your snorkelling in the place you are staying and keep the money in your room and come back to get it and then pay. There is a definite racket going on in this place.
