Rangko Cave, East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia

4.5 (139 reviews) Spent Ranking #7 in East Nusa Tenggara Caverns & Caves

Unique underground cave

The starting point is from a Harbour (please pick Dermaga Cinta) to go to the Rangko Cave. The trip is about 10 min. Just go and ask the fisherman or the boat owner! If you go through a third party person (calo), you will be charged double. I got Mr. Jainudin (picture attached) and he is so nice. If you're 2 person, the fee will be 100k/person. If you're are 5 persons, it will be total 350k. More persons will be cheaper each. The cave is unique. We need to walk down and we can swim. Recommended if you want to see a different experience in Bajo.

Worth a look if you are out that way.
This is an interesting visit but the cave itself isn't huge. We took dive masks which are handy in the water. Water seems very salty, I had no difficulty floating but it is probably mostly just seawater. Wear swim gear - there's nowhere to change. It's quite tricky getting into the water as the rocks are alternately sharp and slippery, however there are steps some of the way. There's a small fee payable at the arrival dock (that they don't tell you about, so remember to bring some small change) and maybe be a little picky with the boat - ours 1. had no muffler on the motor so was pretty much deafening and 2. broke down twice on the way (fuel blockages). The walk from the dock is not difficult. Early afternoon is better as that's when most of the light comes in.
