Pasola Lamboya Field, East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia
4.0 (11 reviews) Spent 1-2 hours Ranking #9 in Sumba Horse Tracks
Sacred site, stunning views
The biggest ritual of the year is held here, the Pasola festival. A ritual to spill blood in honor of their ancestors and as a sacrifice for a good harvest ahead. Literally blood has been spilled here, deaths have also happened in the past. There are two megalithic tombs stones on the site and amazing views down to wanokaka from the edge of the site. Often you can see buffalo in a water hole between the edge of the road and the site. Must visit if in the area.

Wild experience
Although the Pasola was stopped by the police after less than an hour (rival groups in the crowd started hurling rocks at each other, apparently a regular outcome) it was quite a show anyhow. Two opposing sides, wearing 'team colours', ride their horses at each other while throwing long wooden sticks which resemble blunt spears. Quite wild.

Beautiful, keep it unspoiled
It is the best Pasola field on the island. Close to the main road with beautiful view to the valley. Keep the field away from new house or building constructions
