If you hike up in the night better take a guide (see review)
We are backpackers and normaly we would not pay a guide to go up a montain. However this time we decided (because of the posts we read and advices we got) otherwise, which was a very good decision! If you hike Inerie in the night I would highly recommend a guide because there are many different ways, there are cliffs, loose rocks and slippery paths. We went up with Melki (guide) who was above our expectations. In the beginning of the hike he made us some walking sticks out of wood which was extremly helpful in these difficult conditions. Moreover Melki speaks a very good english, knows a lot about the indonesian and local culture and likes to share his knowlege and thoughts. What is more he is a very funny and nice guy and laughs all the time ;-) We started ar 1:30 a.m. in the morning at the guesthouse (Melki met us there on time and we drove to the starting point everyone with his own scooter). At 2:00 a.m. we started to hike with our new walking sticks. At 5:00 a.m. we were at the top to see the sunrise 30 minutes after. In the mean time we ate our breakfast there. For the way back we took another path which was very fun because the massive amount of loose small stones made it possible that we could "ski down" the sandy hill (like skiing down the sandy path). This was absolut fun and way faster than walking down, furthermore spared our knees. Last words: if you are looking for a reliable, enthuastic and fun guide, call/write Melki (+62 822 6065 1320).

High recommendation for a trip with Melon (Melki) as guide
With the guide Melon (Melki) I was 1 and 1/2 day around Bajawa on his Motorbike. He is one of the best guides, I had until now. He speaks really good English and knows a lot to tell about culture, history and politics of Indonesia. But also he showed me many plants and fruits during our hiking and explained them to me. Because he speaks Indonesia and the Language of the region, it was possible to speak with inhabitants of the old villages with the help of his Translation. There we have been invited in a house for a coffee, because the people there know him well. He is a good motorbike-driver and although in the beginning I was afraid to drive with him, after a while I started to enjoy it. I highly recommend Melon (or Melki) as a guide.
