Semey-nal works
Checked out the Art Museum of Nevzorovyh in Semey about a week ago. It is free to get in and displays mostly European and Russian works but a few Kazakh ones as well. Nicely laid out, not much English signage but easy to get around and understand. Would recommend.

Worth visiting
One of the few places in Semey that are actually worth visiting. The museum has quite an impressive collection of European and Russian artist from the past three centuries. There is even one Rembrant painting, but clearly not a famous one.

Enthusiastic guide but no Socialist realism
Perhaps the man whose collection comprises the greater part of the art on display didn’t like it, or maybe artwork from the Soviet era has fallen from favour; either way there was none to be seen. Much of what is on display is of 3rd or lower rank stuff by Western European standards, abd relatively little local produce. The gallery is pleasant enough for a brief visit.
