Wonderful Museum

The Ducktown Basin Museum is located on the historic mine site, which was the headquarters for Tennessee Copper Company and Cities Service mining operations from 1899 through 1975. An audiovisual presentation provides a brief historical introduction to the museum and its collection, which includes artifacts, photographs and displays depicting the industrial and cultural heritage of this former mining community. Larger artifacts are displayed on the grounds just outside the museum office.

    Great History Lesson
Quaint little museum rich with the history of the area. One of the women who worked there walked around with us and added so much insight to the pictures since she had lived there her whole life and her husband had worked in the mines. Definitely recommend a stop in if you are in the area.

    Copper mining history in Tennessee
This small museum in a small town does an excellent job of relating the history of the copper mines in this area of Tennessee. You begin your visit by watching a video then proceed to the museum area which consists of several rooms with photos with printed information and tools used by the miners. Outside you will find some of the equipment used for mining also with explanations of how each piece was used. The museum is easy enough to find as the road signs are adequate. The staff can answer any questions you may have. There are also some books and postcards for sale at the admission desk. Do check the website for hours and days when this site is open. If you do arrive when it is closed you can still view the outdoor displays.
