A Quiet Place
There are no words to describe the feeling this church creates in one's being. It's used as a meditation center and for special occasions(weddings, etc.) by local and visitors alike. Built totally by hand, as a tribute to God and the builder's Scandinavian Heritage, it is a masterpiece of construction and purpose. Since my first visit, the place is never far from my thoughts and it draws me back time and time again. Stop here and soothe your soul.

Breath taking.
This is a reproduction of a StavKirke that was built in Norway in 1150! I've seen these stunning churches (Kirk) in Norway. We are so fortunate that the Washington Island inhabitants honored their Scandinavian heritage by building this. Just Breathtaking! Peaceful and awe inspiring.

Beautiful church
This beautifully built traditional Scandinavian Stavkike - or stave church- is amazing to view. A team of local craftsmen and women built this to honor their heritage. It literally looks like it was lifted from a small European village and carried to Washington Island. Due to covid we could only peek through the windows but what a treasure. It’s a quick stop in your way from the Ferry. Or take some time and meditate in the gardens. You’ll be glad you stopped.
