Dark Sky Park

There are many hiking options in such a beautiful environment. Some of the options include hiking hear the water and enjoying the beautiful lake view. This is a "Dark Sky" Park and has the best views of the stars, and constellations around. We hike at this park every time we visit Door County because it isn't very crowded and is serene and enjoyable. This is truly a well hidden Gem.

    Starry Skies
On a clear night, this park offers a beautiful and hard to find dark sky filled with glittering stars. Jupiter rising in the east shines on the waters of Lake Michigan and the Northern Lights pulse in greens and reds above. During the day, enjoy a gorgeous hiking experience.

    Good for hiking
Of the two state parks in Door County, Newport is smaller and is more for hiking. Great if you like to walk amongst the trees. The $11.00 is good to enter both parks, Newport and Peninsula if done in the same day. If you can only do one, Peninsula is bigger, has a lighthouse which can be toured and the Eagle tower to climb via stairs or ramp for a outlook of the water and islands. There are trails and camping available. Newport is noted for the dark sky and is open until 11pm you can bring telescopes and they give you suggestions on where to find the best spot for viewing.
