Knowledgeable and Personable

Our guide, Tony (or is it Toni?) gives a wonderful tour. It’s no wonder he gets nothing but 5-star ratings. He is knowledgeable but quick to admit when he (or anyone really) does not know. I found conversation with him about Split and Croatia more generally very enlightening. When you’re in a place with as many layers of history as Diocletian’s Palace, you really don’t know what you are looking at without a guide like Tony providing the context.

Highlight of my stay in Split, Croatia
Our tour in Diocletian's palace was so wonderful, all because of our tour guide and historian, Toni. He presented information with clarity and relevance. I look at Diocletian's palace with a new perspective now. I value the knowledge I gained. The two hours went by so quickly as it was so enjoyable.

Small group allows for lots of interaction
We saw groups of 40 or more being herded through Diocletian's Palace by bored tour guides and chose Toni's tour instead. It was a great choice that really enriched our understanding of what we were seeing. There were only 7 of us which meant we had lots of opportunity to ask questions during our two-hour tour of the palace and environs. Toni could answer not only questions about Roman and medieval times, but also about more recent Croatian history. He pointed out and explained things, both ancient and modern, we hadn't even noticed when we walked through on our own the day before. Not only does he have a degree in history, he also has experience as a teacher which means he can adapt to the group he is leading and convey his enthusiasm for his subject. He also debunked a few commonly heard myths. The White House, for instance, was not built with limestone from Brač. It is built from sandstone from Virginia and was painted white after being charred when it was set on fire by British troops during the 1812-1814 War. We highly recommend Toni's tour. Book online.
