Really interesting and great value

Experience and make memories of Dalarna. “A mediaeval keep with its very own moat in the middle of Falun.” This is how the architect described the building from 1962 which houses Dalarnas Museum. Stepping into the entrance hall you are immediately struck by the diversity that Dalarna has to offer. The streets of Falun outside the windows stand in stark contrast to the woven tapestry depicting a moss-clad mountain stream in Fulufjället in northern Dalarna. Discover the museum and enjoy the art, from prints to paintings of popular Dalecarlian artists. Dream away at our exhibition of sparkling Hagström guitars. Admire the large collection of our most recognisable souvenir – the Dala horse. Step into the world of the Dalecarlian folk painters and feel the pull of history among the colourful folk costumes or in the library of Nobel laureate Selma Lagerlöf. Experience your Dalarna! A warm welcome to visit us at the heart of a UNESCO World Heritage!

A really good place to start at!
Dalarnas museum is a small museum in the town of Falun, the regional capital of Dalarna, or Dalecarlia as it used to be called in English. The museum is a great place to learn about the region, the old copper mines, the red paint that is used for painting so many buildings, the Dala horses, the traditional folklore costumes that are still used for celebrations, weddings etc. Paintings from local and famous artists.. and ALL FREE OF CHARGE! Despite the fact that we have lived in the area for 35 years, we often take our visitors to see the museum and they all think it is great!!

    Brilliant
This museum is well worth a visit especially if you're interested in Swedish folk art, costume and traditions. It's beautifully laid out and has some wonderful exhibits and it's FREE (and after a few days in Sweden you'll start to appreciate that word!)
