    A week of family fun
We skied here for 6 days and although we did not experience a huge powder dump (it snowed only 4 inches during our stay) we truly enjoyed exploring the mountain. The runs aren’t super steep and strong intermediates like myself had no problem going down the black runs. My favorite areas were the Triangle gladed run off of Storm Peak Express and the The Ridge gladed area off the Morningside Lift. Pockets of soft powder in those areas. Lift lines were very minimal and we spent less than a couple of minutes waiting for a chair. Food options on the mountain and at the base were pretty good. We enjoyed eating at Timber and Torch and the Thunderhead Lodge. Kids Vacation Club was a great experience for my five year old son. After 5 full days of lessons, he went from skiing pizza to skiing parallel and learned to hockey stop. The lessons cost us a pretty penny; however, it was worth it since he won’t listen to my husband for skiing tips! The instructors were really great with him. Since we all have the full IKON pass the money we saved from daily lift tickets($225 daily ticket) was spent on lessons for him. Overall, I recommend Steamboat as a great family ski destination.

Steamboat - Still Great But Bursting at It's Seams -
I spent a lot of time with a wintering '76 and family ski and summer trips over the years. The town was attractive as it has been a 'real working' town with a history and nearby ranches still operating unlike Vail or Aspen et all. I had not been here in summer for many years and BOY has it grown, with lots of traffic and congestion unlike the sleepy summer town I remembered. Traffic HORRIBLE at peak hours. That said, many great restaurants and summer activities and great venues like the Botanical Gardens and National Forest and wilderness areas. Concern is the resort is adding a second mountain gondola and aims to become the second largest ski resort in NA. IMO bigger is not always better and I have concerns about Resort able to handle even bigger crowds.
