It was really cool, but not for people who get scared easily

Torture Museum of San Marino: "A journey through human cruelty" Few phenomenons kept their essence intact through time as the subject of this exhibit. From the Jock’s Mare or Skull Splitter to the shock treatment or psychiatric drugs, there is always been a long series of new instruments, so it is hard to talk about progress or evolution. Through this appalling journey into the machines used to cause death, public mockery and pain, the exhibit shows horrors that our conscience has repressed but that had been part of human coexistence for many centuries instead. Famous tortures that make us shiver but demonstrate how men applied as much creativity into the field of technology and into finding new ways to inflict pain as into arts and culture. The purpose of the exhibit is practicing our memory, documenting the aberrations of intolerance and zealotry which men achieved in their clear headed delirium to intentionally provoke harm and death.

    San Marino Museum of Torture
This museum was easy to navigate, with arrows guiding you where to go. Descriptions of museum items were detailed in multiple languages, and historical pictures were included next to most of the torture items. Pictures and descriptions might be unsettling for some who are not interested in the history of different cultures' methods of torture, but the museum is informative and historically engaging for those looking to know more about the past plights and experiences of the brutally oppressed.

    Terrifying, yet super interesting museum!
San Marino's torture museum is probably the best of its kind I have ever visited. Its collection of torture instruments is extensive and the explanations accompanying each of such objects are very detailed. After the visit, you'll really get an idea of how cruel people can be, and you'll definitely struggle to forget the gruesome details in regard to the uses of the torture instruments. The museum is small, but the way its collection is set up is great as everything is exposed inside a medieval house. I appreciated how the lights are dimmed, so to create the perfect ambiance for what could easily be described as a horror tour. In addition, the fact a Middle Age torture chamber was recreated downstairs, is great as the ancient walls really make you feel as if you are in a real prison. This is probably the only museum worth visiting in San Marino, as it is very original and interesting. Keep in mind that the price is a bit too high though...
