Wonderful Tour of Religious Art Collection

We had a wonderful guided tour of the religious art galleries on the second floor. The guide covered a lot of territory about painting and Christian iconography -- asking us a number of quiz questions along the way. Because the tour was guided, there were some artworks that we skipped over, and we didn't get to read any of the labels to see what information they might have contained. We went through the contemporary art galleries on the first floor at our own pace. There was not much explanation of the art here, although there were some excellent pieces on view. No photos allowed of the religious art collection, but there were several pieces that I found of sufficient interest that I bought the museum guide.

Very large set of museums and art gallery with a wide range of art
A little of everything in the Bolivian art world old and new? No, really a lot of everything (except not much modern art). Nice interior garden. Best to have a guide take you thru. You can spend an hour or half a day depending on your taste and time

    A bit short on descriptions
I think that the museum has opted for quantity rather than quality. Large glass cabinets line a couple of the rooms and these are full of ceramics, a little difficult to see because of the reflections. It is possible to discover the era and the location of some of these finds but fuller descriptions of fewer articles would improve the visit. There are three mummies on exhibit including a mother and child. Once again it would have been nice to read a description of the circumstances of their finding.
