Excellent tour with value earned back in tasting
Excellent tour of about an hour. You are explained about the distilling and maturation process, shown a short movie about the impact, with lots of tasting throughout. Ronaldo (I think) was our guide, happily switching between English and Spanish. Only $5 for a tour - a great deal given the amount of tastings you’ll get.

Interesting your, a very easy day trip tom Leon
Visited the factory after a recommendation from a fellow traveller. Would definitely recommend it to everyone. The tour includes a bit of history about the rum, the family and the surrounding area. They show you a video which includes the rum distillation process, their local philanthropy efforts and their market reach. After that, you get to go into the family's private tasting room. In here, with one of the factory employees, you go through the entire tasting process for the 18 años rum, which was very intriguing and informative. After this you see the barreling areas and go into one of the storage sheds. A great day out for all Transport Information: We caught the local chicken bus their and back which was incredibly easy but it took me quite a while to figure out how to do it. Return chicken buses cost us $1 per person and $20 for the tour of the factory, compared to an organised tour from leon costing Upwards of $35 dollars You simply go to the bus station in leon, the one next to the market to the north. Once here, look for the bus saying "Leon-Chichigalpa-Chinandega". One may not be there when you arrive, but they leave every 10-15 minutes, so just wait. Then you get off the bus just after the turnoff to chichigalpa when you see the Flor de caña factory on your right. You can't miss it. Or just ask the driver. To return, it's exactly the same process, you just flag the bus down on the street in front of the factory.
