I love old cemeteries - especially historic ones
If you love visiting old cemeteries, don't miss this one. I wandered around for at least an hour taking photos of the old gravestones and monument - most from the 1800s. Many had masonic symbols on them and lots of the graves had special stones listing their military service in the civil war (this is the south, so most are confederates). Some of them served in the Texas republic army and those have special markers. Some of the Alamo soldiers families are buried here like the Travis and Crocket familes. Very interesting and historic. My dogs (on leash) were with me and they loved it there too.

Old cemetery
Glad to put this attraction on Trip Advisor as this is an interesting place to visit while in Chappell Hill. It is located out of town a bit on Old Chappell Hill Road going toward Brenham. It was opened in 1853 and the founder of Chappell Hill was the first to be interred there. There are pioneers, Texians and Confederate soldiers buried here. It seems well kept. We enjoyed seeing some of the old rusty fences and headstones.
