National Museum of Montenegro, Cetinje, Montenegro

Very much enjoyed these two museums under one roof

This building as the National Museum of Montenegro houses both museums on Montenegrin history and Montenegrin art (and artists). Both museums feature broad and well-curated collections of important items. In the history museum it is primarily military uniforms, banners, regimental flags, weapons, etc and the art museum covers all genres of art from religious to modern. We spent more than an hour here and were glad we saved it until the last and were happy we'd fortified ourselves with coffee and a snack before embarking on it! You can purchase the Museum Pass ticket which is valid for all Cetinje museums including this one, King Nikola's Palace (Palais Royal), the Njegos Museum, the Map of Montenegro (currently closed under renovation) and the Ethnographic Museum. A great value!

Interesting National Museum of Montenegro in the old capital of Cetinje
Interesting national museum. We were there during the time of the protests and Covid-19, so we were the only 2 persons in the museum. It has a fair size and gives a good overview of their history. Worthwhile a visit. Entrance fee 3 Euro per person.

    King Nikola's Museum
Our brochure stated that we would be visiting the National Museum of Montenegro, little did we realise that we would only visit King Nikola's Museum, take a stroll in the garden on the path from the parking area and that was it. The complex actually consists of four museums and a number of buildings, churches and houses that comprise each museum. The museum was established in 1896 and there are some interesting displays in King Nikola's Museum, the former palace. relics of the wars, old documents, flags, various items of furniture, etc. We had an accompanying guide who spoke fluent English and gave her best effort to be enthusiastic with respect to the displays and who gave a fairly detailed history of relevant items. Her narrative included the previous uses of each room, the special guests that visited and of course, a brief history on Cetinje, the importance of this former capital of Montenegro Our tour was a shore excursion with inclusions arranged by the cruiseline and I would certainly recommend that any person taking a tour to the National Museum of Montenegro predetermine the actual content of the tour and not just accept the description and poetic licence in the brochure. My review is based solely on the visit to the former Palace.
