The birthplace of Petar II Petrovic Njegos is located in Erakovici, a little village near Njegusi. It was erected by his uncle, Petar I Petrovic Njegos in 1779. The birthplace of Petar II Petrovic Njegos was renovated several times, and in 1973 it was converted to a memorial museum.

Getting to know a king
For those interested in getting to know the history of the Montenegrin royal family, visiting the birthplace of Njegos, probably the most famous of the Kings is a must. It shows the humble beginnings of a king who would become a poet. Visiting this can be done on the same day as Njegos' mausoleum. I have been twice with my daughter (once when she was 4 years old and once aged 5) and she was very taken by the chairs around the cooking pot.

Stop at this village on your drive from Cetinje to Kotor
Njegusi are one of the finest examples of a living Montenegrin village. Njegos’ birth house is popular with tourists; not too much to see and not terribly significant to visitors outside Balkans. Interesting as it's showing what a Montenegrin village house looked like in in the past. Of course, not everyone had a house that big in the old Montenegro. The Certinje-Njegusi-Kotor drive is spectacular!
