    Interesting museum.
Decent museum. I'd say it definitely helps to have a little knowledge of Budapest's history with the Nazis and the the Soviets beforehand though. The focus seemed to be on the post war history and I would have liked to have seen a bit more focus on events during the war. For a better understanding of what happened with the Jewish population I recommend the exhibition down stairs in the Dohany Street Synagogue. I see a lot of reviews complaining that not enough information is in English which I think is a bit harsh. You can get an audio guide which really should be included in the ticket price but isn't. When you go in every room there's a sheet of paper at the door giving you absolutely loads of information about what the room is covering and every video is subtitled. However, it could probably do with having a few bits in English next to certain items. I was also intrigued by all the reviews mentioning the manners of the staff. The 2 younger women at the main desk were absolutely fine but the older woman you hand your ticket to 100% used to work in those cells in the basement. Proper miserable and rude. Still worth a visit if you're interested in this type of history. Not the best museum in the world but not the worst.

    Ok but could be better
I don’t normally visit places such as this but I find this whole era very interesting and wanted to learn some more. Unfortunately I didn’t feel I gained much information. The staff are rude and very brusque. The man on the door did smile but he was the exception to the rule. You buy your ticket before being told you cannot take your bags or coats into the exhibition. Not a problem however you have to leave them in a cloak room which I didn’t feel comfortable with. They do allow smaller bags so we managed to keep our valuables on us. I agree with other reviewers in that I felt we were being stalked by the staff in the rooms. There are no labels on any of the exhibits. Instead there is an information sheet available in each rooms in Hungarian and English. Although this was good I would have appreciated some sort of narrative alongside the exhibits. There were parts that felt cramped and not very covid safe. For want of a better word the basement was the best bit, I felt it gave you a good sense of what happened there and was the most poignant part of the exhibition.
