Moving experience

The Hospital in the Rock Nuclear Bunker Museum is a thrilling, unique and moving place. Visitors can learn about the WWII and the 1956 revolution as well as the Cold War in relation to this former TOP SECRET nuclear bunker. It had an important role during the war and it was classified until 2002 and opened as a museum in 2008. The place ensures a real time warp into the past. Mobiles are not working inside. Do not expect a regular museum. One hour long tour departs every hour in English. Guide books are available in several languages. Unforgettable experience underneath the Castle Hill. The entrance is only about 5 minutes walk from the famous Matthias-Church of Buda.

Amazing experience, highly recommended but almost ruined by the staff at the start,
It was incredibly interesting and a very unique experience. I highly recommend it. It was great that the tour lasted an hour so we could get on with our day without it feeling like it consumed the holiday. Really great, emotional displays and an incredibly sad history. Good value for money and an impressive tour with lots to see. It was incredible how many real items were there and seeing the actual machines and items used in real life. The wax figurines were of high quality and tastefully done. The medical helicopter and jeep were excellent surprises. My only criticism is that our tour was off to a bad start because the guide just walked off with the group and left us and no one had said how to access the lockers or what we needed to put in. We were struggling to use them as we needed a Euro but we had HUF only in Notes and the sign at the entrance said no jackets but bags ok but we later realised this meant no coats in the lockers!!! No-one helped us and it was very embarrassing. We had to catch up with the rest of the group inside the underground hospital having missed some of the introduction and the elderly staff member seemed really annoyed with us for not knowing what to do. Two of them just watched us struggle with frustration. As we had booked an English speaking tour, someone should have said this is where you can put your belongings and this is what you need to put in. However, the overall experience saved itself.

    Decent Museum. Very recommended!
Really good experience visiting here. We paid about £16 each getting in and I’d recommend if you are in the area popping in for a tour. We didn’t book tickets we just took our chances and turned up and luckily we got on the next tour. The only negative I would give this Museum is that our group was quite big therefore when the tour guide was talking we either couldn’t hear her properly if we were at the back or sometimes we couldn’t all fit in the same room as she spoke. Tours happen here on every hour in English. The women doing our tour was very good she knew a lot about the history of the place, all the other staff were really helpful and lovely. It was very interesting and I’d definitely like to go back one day, just hoping maybe next time we get a little more time to read the paragraphs on the walls etc.
