unique and really well organized museum
The museum includes interesting historical artifacts from Paraguay's history. Not too many, and well presented. But the best part by far are the fantastic sculptures of mythological gods. These are weird and wacky and fascinating. Well worth a visit.

Learn about Paraguayan history and Guaraní mythology
This museum is made up of 3 rooms each featuring something entirely different. In one room, you will find sculptures of creatures from the Tau and Keraná story, In another room, artifacts from the Paraguayan War and the Chaco War. In the other room are artifacts from the Jesuits and Franciscans who brought Christianity to the area. Unlike many museums in Paraguay, this one has an entrance fee, but it is very low. I think it was Gs. 5000 per person which is just over US$1. There isn't a great deal of information for visitors here, so it would be much more informative to bring an English speaking guide along with you who is familiar with Guaraní mythology and Paraguayan history. If you speak Spanish, then the museum curator can explain the exhibits. The museum is housed in a beautifully constructed house and is accessible right off the highway. If you are visiting the sites and towns outside of Asuncion (sometimes called the Golden Circuit), this is definitely worth a short stop.

Unusual interesting museum of mythology and history
It definitely helps to have an English speaking guide along to appreciate the simple but astounding presentations in this small museum, as there are no English explanations. Our driver for the day, Manuel, who also served as our guide did a very detailed job explaining the various mythological creatures exhibited and he also explained the artifacts from the Chaco and Paraguayan Wars. If you are interested in the history and particularly the mythology of this country, this museum is definitely worth a visit.
