Not an old Medina
This is a relatively newer Medina. It is a maze of narrow allies. You can find mosques, shrines, shops, old houses and quaint cafes here. You can enter this Medina from several sides but the most commonly used ones are the Rick’s Cafe entrance or the Zavaco Dome one.

Disappointing
We were looking forward to wandering through the Old Medina, but it turned out to be a disappointment. Lots of cheap souvenir stalls + stalls and shops selling shoes, clothes, and regular household items. The narrow streets wound around into the neighborhoods, which were not very welcoming. There was some interesting architecture and local store front shops. Lots of large wooden carts being wheeled through the street with fresh fruits, vegetables, and even eggs. (Each cart had one owner and one type of food.) Lots of people walking, some riding scooters quite fast through the alleyways, children playing, and much chaos. A few of the women seemed to smile at us, but the men just scowled. Feeling very unwelcome, we decided to make our way out.

Good to visit for an hour
We found this medina a little over the top with tat, didn’t seem to see much original products here, possibly didn’t give it enough time to wonder around. Found a lot of people didn’t leave you alone (unlike Marrakesh) you walked up someone’s alley and you knew about it for a good 10/15 minutes. Glad we went to see it but didn’t find anything of interest to purchase.
