Good for Photo Op

It was about a 15-minute walk to this sculpture after our visit to the Recoleta Cemetery. Sculpture is located in a park. It was a very pleasant area to walk around The sculpture provided a good photo opportunity for selfies. It’s too bad that the petals appear to be stuck in closed position when I visited. There is no admission fee to see it.

Interesting Piece of Reflective Art. NOT A MUST SEE. Not Working
We stopped for a quick look and photo at this unique reflective chrome metal opening and closing flower. It was a gift to the city and was built back in 2002. It is officially known as "Floralis Generica" and is made by steel and aluminum and it is located in Plaza de las Niaciones Unidas that is apart of a four acre park complex. BOTTOM LINE: The six metal pedals are supposed to open and close by sensors according to the daylight to open and then close by night. It is about 70' high and when opened is about 95' wide. It sits in a water reflection pond to add a dramatic effect to the chrome reflections. Well I say "supposed" to open and close because it no long does that, it's broken unfortunately. The opening and closing each day is met to represent the "hope and rebirth each day as it opens" to begin each new a day. Not anything you "must see" but is interesting to see and shoot a photo or selfie if passing by this area. MY RATING: 6/10.

    Be better if it worked
While a great photo opportunity, OK setting, and clever piece of work, it doesn't work. The petals are meant to open and close with sun, light and weather. Presently locked in one position. Seems to be on all tour guide lists to visit, so time for the city to get it attended to, as is clearly an attraction. Free entry and restful park with a few story boards of interest.
