    Eerily Beautiful
The cemetery is of great historic interest and has many interesting stories to tell about its inhabitants. It was easy to spend a considerable amount of time looking around the numerous narrow avenues of uniquely interesting statues / mausoleums / tombs. The cemetery is well maintained and home to the final resting place of Eva ‘Evita’ Peron (née Duarte. Her heavily fortified black fronted tomb to protect her remains is tucked away and under the name of Familia Duarte. You can also see the well visited tombs of former Argentine presidents Sarmiento and Raúl Alfonsín. Visitors will soon notice the practice of coffins being placed both above and below ground. Look out for the interesting mechanisms for lowering coffins into the crypts below ground. We had the opportunity of seeing one being repaired. It’s well worth leaving plenty of time for this visit as there is so much to see. This is a beautiful and peaceful place despite its many visitors.

    Still Fascinating...
Always fascinating, but this time I noticed that many more shrines are in serious disrepair. Also, they now charge admission and it was more than the price which is published online (about $15). One can only pay the admission by charge card -- the most expensive way to pay for anything in the current economy. It may be the easiest for them to manage on site rather than handling cash, but it would be nice to allow people to pay ahead of time and scan a code to enter.
