Historical

Would have loved to have an interior tour of this building but unfortunately, our four days in Buenos Aires did not fall on a weekend. Tours are only done on Saturdays and Sundays with advanced reservations. It was from this balcony that Eva Peron addressed the huge crowd of supporters which is often shown in photos. Today, the building houses the Argentine President's offices.

    Reserve in advance
Due to its limited hours and even more limited English tour (only one per week), I had to come back to this area (which I'd already toured on a Friday because many sites nearby are not open on the weekends) just to visit the palace. Despite the inconvenience, I'm glad I did. I like history and historic sites, and enjoyed the hour long tour. Reserve your time slot in advance online and bring the printed ticket and your passport. Arrive 15 min in advance to pass through gate security, where they will check your voucher and ID. You will wait outside until the appointed time when your tour guide will come to collect the group. Inside, you will pass through security with an X-ray belt and another ID / voucher check before your tickets and headset are issued. Visitors pass through a final security station and Xray belt before exiting the building. I was pleasantly surprised, however, to find that visitors could take photos throughout the entire tour. The groups are spaced 15 minutes apart, and an employee trails the group to ensure that no one (mainly me) dawdles. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the tour, especially the hall of marble busts of former presidents, the palm tree patio, the salon blanco, and the balcony where the Perons delivered their victory speeches. From the balcony, visitors can look out over the entire Plaza de Mayo. Walk around the outside of the building (outside the gates) and appreciate its sheer size. One block behind the Casa Rosada is the Casa Rosada museum, the old customs house. It's small, but free, and contains a few relics and displays. We wandered through before our visit to the Casa Rosada palace. The Casa Rosada is a famous historic building and worth a visit. It is open only on Saturdays from 10am to 6pm. Solely visitors who furnish proof of a tour appointment and a passport are allowed to pass through the gates. There is only ONE English tour, though, at 12:30pm. Visitors can reserve a free tour online at the casarosada gob ar website. Hope that helps! Enjoy Buenos Aires!

    Prepare to be disappointed
I suspect I would feel differently if I could have toured inside Casa Rosada (Pink House), but I was unimpressed by this historic building. It looks pink in pictures, but seems a washed-out tan in person. While it houses the office of the Argentine president, it is not the president’s house. The website for arranging a tour (weekends only apparently) didn’t work the multiple times we tried to use it. We had to satisfy ourselves with walking around Casa Rosada, separated from it by fences and barriers. We didn’t bother with paying to see the nearby museum, which we heard is Spanish-language only. Since you’ll no doubt be at Plaza de Mayo anyway, the Pink House is worth some time — if you can imagine Evita speaking from the balcony or Argentina’s national football team hoisting the World Cup trophy here.
