Limmat river is what makes Zurich such a cute town. The river flows through its center dividing the city into two parts. Best time you can have in Zurich sightseeing is walking the Limmat. You can easily hop on either side of the old town, as there're several bridges downtown spanning it. First thing you'll notice when crossing the bridges is how Limmat is clear - you can see the bottom and it seems like a mountain spring from which you can drink. Almost all the city attractions are along it, as well beautiful views.

Lovely river splitting Zurich
Very picturesque river flowing through the heart of the city. Wonderful heritage buildings either side that is photo perfect to see. With nice cafe, restaurants and bars wonderful area to walk along. Also make sure you see it during the day and at night for contrast views, at night a different atmosphere.

LImmat River Nestled in the Heart of Zurich!
The Limmat River runs through the heart of Zürich. The rivers origin is at Lake Zurich, and from there it flows through Zurich and beyond in a Northeasternly direction. In addition to a leisurely walk along the river, you can bike, take a boat ride, and even swim in certain areas, when the weather permits. Since we visited in December we enjoyed the Limmat River as we explored the beautiful Altstadt, with numerous bridges spanning the Limmat it was easy to cross from one Christmas Market to the next, and from one historical attraction to another! Beautiful Limmat River, beautiful Zurich, and beautiful Switzerland!
