Country’s largest and busiest

It being Switzerland’s largest and busiest was obvious on our early morning arrival. Bustling with arrivals, departures and passengers over a few levels, it's easy to see why it is one of Europe's busiest. Dating from 1871, the exterior was in the midst of a major renovation with much hoarding and builders’ paraphernalia surrounding it. So unfortunately wasn’t possible to completely take in the purported grandeur of the exterior design.

Wonderful Christmas market and really great place to eat
We arrived at Zurich station and it is a very busy place with many locals eating here during the day as the food is great and what a variety on offer. We easily found the information section which is really big and surprise - helpful. Christmas time here is wonderful and it is a perfect place to lauch into Zurich. City is not large and walking mostly is easy and public transport is really easy to use but taxis are outrageous so watch them here.

    More Than a Train Station
We drove into Zurich mid-morning, dropped off our rental car, and had a taxi take us to our hotel which was near Zurich HB. I noticed the building as we drove by but didn’t realize it was the railway station. Since we were flying out the next morning, as soon as we got checked-in, we left for a quick tour of the city and Lake Zurich. That night after dinner, I went out walking around exploring the area and discovered the Hauptbahnhof (HB) Railroad Station, the largest railway station in Switzerland. This huge, mostly underground station has multiple floors containing a large retail shopping mall. It was a cool and unique place, I enjoyed wandering around for a while.
