Fascinating Museum

Founded in 1878, the Textile Museum of St.Gallen houses one of Switzerland’s most important textile collections. Woven materials and embroideries from every corner of the globe, sample books, sketches and photographs: the Museum’s exhibitions bear testimony to the shifting fortunes of Swiss textiles, an industry shaped by regional pride and international influence. In addition to the permanent exhibition “Manufacturers and Manipulators”, which is dedicated to the textile history of Eastern Switzerland, the following exhibitions will be presented iin 2022: MAKING NUNO. Limited, expected more given importance of the industry
Textiles being a seminal industry in the city, had expected this to be reflected in the eponymous museum. But limited exhibits, with just one room on both ground and first floors open. In the former a textile machine for embroidery was the only item to be seen. Ascending, the display space was impressive but no examples of the finished products. Another room, said to be a library with archive was closed.

Only if you really like textiles
This is a very small museum in a big building. Really not many exhibits and mostly about a textile factory in Japan. Takes about 15 minutes to see unless you watch the 30 minutes of video about the factory. A bit over priced at 12 franks. Would not recommend for most people. Average rating is just for what is shown.
