Town Hall of Comillas

As others have mentioned, this building was once a free school back in the days when schooling wasn’t free. It’s now the working offices of the Comillas town hall. A fairly typical example of Cantabrian architecture. It has a charming Romanesque arcade on the lower level and a wooden balcony on the upper level of the type very common to the town and province. The Comillas Tourist office is just around the corner from the arcade.

Visit the historical center of Comillas.
This newer building, which once was the free school for the children, and was run by the nuns, namely the “Sisters of Charity” and all this paid by “Doña Manuela del Pielago Sánchez Movellán” which was in the end of the nineteenth century. The building has being transformed into the “New Town Hall” in the year 2003. The main façade is getting characterised by its wide porch, and from the South façade you are able to overlook the Square called “Plaza del Angel”, and on a corner you will find the statue from the “Virgin with the child”. And here is also the tourist information centre.

    Historical Comillas
We were here looking for the Tourist Information office which is located on one corner of this building. The building itself apparently was the free school for the children, and was run by the nuns calling themselves the 'Sisters of Charity'. The building is now the 'New Town Hall'. There is a very wide porch which offers great protection from the sun.
