A Gaudi gem in Comillas
This is one of the few works that Gaudi produced outside his native Catalunya. This home was built for a lawyer who made his fortune in Cuba but who had an “intellectual bent” — its design surely reflects that. The exterior of the house reflects Gaudi’s love of nature and uniqueness in its design and colors. It is worth stopping by and enjoying it. I was pleasantly surprised that there was information in English available at the entrance about the house and the owner. I found this to be important in order to get a better enjoyment of the site. Admission fee was 7 euros with some discounts for Seniors and students.

Quirky house, but smaller than I thought it would be
We were staying 1.5 hrs away but we decided to visit as our friend was a fan of Gaudi and wanted to see the house. The website is not easy to navigate, and after several attempts to book tickets we gave up. The website appeared to show you could not just turn up , but we thought we would try. We parked at the beach car park and walked through the town but its not very well signposted . Staff were very welcoming and we were given guides in English and Spanish ( as I told the ticket office I was learning Spanish and he thought it would be good practice!) The building is a lot smaller than I thought it would be , but it is spectacular.and quirky from the outside. The sunflower tiles are stunning. You can go on a guided tour or self guide which we did . I had imagined that the rooms would be set out so iI was suprized that they were all empty apart from one that had some carved designer chairs in it. The building is very quirky , little balconies with seats on the outside, spiral staircases and stain glass windows. There is a nice garden outside, very cool on a hot day , which gives a great view of the house and a lovely statue of Gaudi himself
