A nice change from the Alps
This was our first ski holiday in Andorra so keen to try a different location to the Austrian location we usually visit. We were recommended to stay in Soldeu at the Hotel Park Piolets. The Grandvilari ski area is great for intermediate skiers like ourselves with it’s good selection of blue and red pistes. The ski map is difficult to follow with a confusing set of names of ski lifts and pistes. After a couple of days you become familiar with the different ski ares (there are 7 sectors including Soldeu, El Tarter, Pas de la Casa). So once you decide which ski area to head for it becomes more straightforward to navigate with signs on the mountains flagging which pistes go to which sectors and whether they are blue, red or black. There are mainly chair lifts but be careful when you go to sit on them: they are quite low down making it a challenge for my tall husband to get on board! There are a number of fun parks for those who want to enjoy freestyle. Catering in the mountains is more functional than in Austria ie largely hot dogs and burgers. That said the hot chocolate is fab and some have a good “apres ski”vibe during the day. Nb our ski pass package included meal vouchers which helped with our budget. There is a ski bus but is not that regular, you have to pay extra and the bus stops aren’t always close to the slopes. The ski instructors are very friendly snd our two hour private session really boosted our confidence and allowed us to make the most of the week’s skiing. Overall Andorra makes a good change from the Alps and looks suitable for beginners. Nb we travelled with Inghams snd stayed in Soldeu at the Park Piolets Mountain Hotel and Spa

    Excellent ski resort
After decades travelling to the Alps, I thoroughly enjoyed my first trip skiing to Soldeu. As my hotel room overlooked the slopes I could watch the pistes being groomed virtually all night. Constant snow machines in use 24/7 to ensure the best possible conditions. We had lovely sunny weather and glorious skiing. Varied slopes for all levels with plenty of good mountain stops for drinks or food at reasonable prices. A variety of restaurants in the village and good lift system. I was impressed. A warm buzzy vibe with English spoken everywhere.
