Playa de Papagayo, Canary Islands, Spain

4.5 (5.142 reviews) Spent 2-3 hours Ranking #27 in Lanzarote Beaches

Worth a visit.

Nice beaches split into two with a cafe on the top of the cliffs in the middle. Can get a little busy and beware if it’s been raining as it makes for a very interesting muddy drive as it along at the end of an unmade road. The cost to enter the unmade road was very reasonable. There are a few steps to go down to reach the beach but not really a problem. Overall, an enjoyable visit.

    Awful road
A very beautiful beach but the road there is awful! It is not asphalted so the whole car is shaking when you're going through it. It takes probably 10-15 minutes to reach the car park. The beach is "wild" so there is nothing there but there is a restaurant upstairs. Luckily the path down to the beach had stairs in good condition. Very beautiful beach. But in summer it must get too full so in this case I prefer long and wide city beaches.

    Beautiful, picturesque but very busy
Wednesday 30th March and we visited Los Ajaches National Park and this beach is the Park's most well known feature. Having paid our €3 entrance fee to the Park, we headed off down the dirt track in the direction of this beach, it was our planned first stop. There is a restaurant at the top of the headland apart from a few derelict buildings there is nothing else. There are no facilities on the beach no sunbeds, umbrellas, showers or toilets. So visitors planning to spend some time on the beach, need to come come fully prepared with all their requirements. The larger beach is on the lefthand side of the bay. It is crescent shaped with golden sands enclosed by cliffs and washed by crystal clear water. This was very busy when we visited, people all crowded close together. The smaller beach on the right hand was equally as picturesque but not as busy. Steps lead down to both beaches and not suitable for all to access the beach. A large number of canoeists were paddling around the coast, great way to see the coast and it's beaches. There are some amazing views from the clifftop including across to the Island of Fuerteventura and the golden sands of the Grandes Playas. Very beautiful beach, amazing scenery, very busy not sure would want to spend too much time here. It does make a sizeable contribution to making the Park such a wonderful place to visit.
