Playa Sucia, Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico

4.5 (923 reviews) Friday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Spent Ranking #2 in Cabo Rojo Beaches

Beautiful beach, but a trek to get to.

One of the island's most wild beaches. There is plenty of wilderness to explore complemented by breathtaking views. There are parking areas but they get full during the high season (summer) so make sure to get there early. Anytime before 9 am should be good.

    Playa Sucia
We had a wonderful time at Playa Sucia and viewing the lighthouse. The drive to the the lighthouse is long and bumpy but it is well worth the drive. It has wonderful views. The inside of the lighthouse has a large amount of historical artifacts. The walk/drive to the beach has a lot of stray dogs - it is so sad to see. There are no bathrooms there so be forewarned. The beach was great but a little overcrowded for during the week.

    The highlight of months'-long trip
The highlight of our trip. You can't park quite as far in because they closed part of the road after Hurricane Fiona. We all just wore our backpacks (with a 9-month-old) filled with food and water and walked to the lighthouse first. Stunning views in every direction that you must see in person. Then we had a picnic up there. Then walked down the hill on the left to Playa Sucia. What a beautiful beach. Absolutely gorgeous and not packed. We loved this area so much that we went back and spent another day. This time we packed dog treats because there are stray dogs begging for food. They are horrendously skinny. We felt so sad for them. This beach is safe to swim in with turquoise water, powder soft sand, and little shaded spots you can settle into when not swimming.
