Great Way to learn local history

The Butler Museum is a very special place for locals. The town of Butler was originally located in what is now the Watauga Lake. When the lake was built in the 1940s, the town was moved to it's current location. Many folks who were displaced still live in the area. The Butler Museum is a must see for locals and visitors alike. It's a really touching experience to go through the museum and understand the history of 'the town that wouldn't drown."

    Our Pride and Joy
I'd call before coming to make sure the museum is open. Most visits include a guided tour of the museum. I helped start the museum and donated some of the display items. Great for school groups.

    Worth the time to visit
We wanted to see some local history in this museum was full of history. It takes you back in time and he tells you a story about the local area. You get to know the peopleand see what they went through, and it makes you appreciate hard-working Americans. Our guide had grown up in the area and did a wonderful job hosting us and explaining the history of the museum.
