A can't miss site in the Jura

If your itinerary takes you to lovely Besançon, you're in the heart of the Jura. While I'm not a tour guide, I have biked across the Jura twice and I do think most peoples' patterns are "across". Climb out of Besançon on the route towards Switzerland via Pontarlier. You'll find the valley of the Loue. You want to see this crystal-clear river! Travel upriver. Bike or car: the climb out of the river valley is majestic. On the road to Ouhans, you'll see a tiny sign, "Source de La Loue". TURN IN!! There's a steep descent to where you can park the car and walk a bit further down, or you can bring the bikes the whole way down. At the bottom you'll turn right and your eyes will feast on the Loue coursing out of a "karst" cliff. It's breathtaking.

    Beautiful drive
This area is a mere 2 hour drive from Geneva. The scenery is gorgeous. Mountains with bare faced cliffs alternate with green meadows. The Loue River has several lovely towns on its banks. Among them is Lods which is on France's list of Most Brautiful Villages. Another town worth stopping at is Ornans, where the famous painter, Gustave Courbet, was from. The area is picturesque. I can understand why a painter would be inspired by it.

    Nice little walk
This is nice visit to do if you don't have a lot of time. You can spend 20 minutes or 2 hours. You can go down a little bit along the river and put your feet in the water and you will see how cold it is. The path is made of rocks so make sure you have good shoes. Stroller is ok but might be difficult in some spots
