Beautiful lake for swimming and boating
We spent a number of days swimming, canoeing and boating on Lac de Chalain while staying close-by. The waters were very warm by August and, once you're away from the 'churn' at the beachside, clear too. There are a number of lifeguard stations around the lake to provide some more reassurance. Can get quite busy at weekends.

    Stunning location
Booked a caravan stay at the Fontenu campsite through Eurocamp using a Groupon deal. We got a great deal for the last week of June, just out of the peak season. We've all had a fantastic time despite it not being peak season. (Family of 4 - 2 adults with 1 x infant and 1 x teen). The lake is absolutely beautiful. We had lots of fun swimming in it and using the free canoe supplied by Eurocamp, as well as hiring out a pedalo to go further out into the lake. Our boys thoroughly enjoyed the outdoor pool complex. However it would be nice if there were some sun loungers around the outdoor pool. We had to just set our towels up on the concrete floor beside it. Sun loungers are only allowed just outside the door of the indoor pool, where the outdoor pool can't be seen. We hired bikes and enjoyed cycling along the routes in the forestry by the side of the lake...until I fell off and got a small branch stuck in my leg. Staff were very concerned when we contacted our rep for help locating a minor injuries clinic. Staff immediately ran out to help me walk to the first aid room at the indoor pool as I was struggling. They were unable to help me so insisted on calling an ambulance to take me to the nearest hospital. I was so embarrassed but they were all very friendly, reassuring and insisted it was for the best. I was very thankful for all their help, they looked after me well and were kind & friendly. We'd love to come back here, probably during peak season for a longer time. Our sons were disappointed at not being able to do the Monkey Forest treetop adventure as it's only open at weekends out of season. But it's been fun and there's lots to do. We only went off site for 2 afternoons out of a weeks stay here, but in good weather there's enough to keep people of all ages continuously entertained. Loved it.
