Everyone should visit the beautiful island of Bornholm

I love visiting the beautiful round churches on Bornholm. We always stroll through the well tended church grounds as well.

    A wonderful surprise
    Bornholm was a stop on our Baltic cruise which we almost decided to skip. That would have been a big mistake. Bornholm is an island that is part of Denmark. The entire island was lovely with quaint villages and views of the sea. Especially nice was the village of Gudjhem which is a great place to walk around and take pictures. Also, be sure and see the Round Church which is about 30 minutes from Gudjhem.

    Gorgeous village on the East Coast with a lot of steep, narrow streets and beautiful small houses. There is a parking fee at the harbor, the parking lots just outside the ancient town are free of charge and the walk downtown is very pleasant (if you pick the small streets). The climate is known to be milder and sunnier than in mainland Denmark, for example you will find fig and peach trees in many gardens. Gudhjem is also known for a classical dish called "Sol over Gudhjem" (Sun above Gudhjem), smoked herring garnished with chopped radishes, onions and a raw egg yolk. Delicious (but mind the salmonella risk).
